U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.), and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) have for the third time brought the Waterway LNG Parity Act before Congress. This bill requires excise taxes on liquefied natural gas (LNG) for marine transportation on inland waterways be levied at a rate consistent with energy output relative to diesel and gasoline. On February 18, the EU reached the decision to regulate CO2 emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. Volvo Trucks produces HD trucks powered by natural gas (CNG and LNG) and biomethane. To speed up development, the heavy duty truck manufacturer continues to invest heavily in more climate-friendly transport solutions, but additional measures are needed to stimulate demand for vehicles with low CO2 emissions. Spain’s MOVES Plan Puts Brakes on NGV Support

In Madrid on February 15, Spain’s Council of Ministers approved a proposal of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition which regulates the incentive program for efficient and sustainable mobility (MOVES Program). Unlike the previous two iterations and despite a plea from SEDIGAS, the Spanish natural gas association, for greater recognition of the role of renewable gas in reducing transport-related emissions, most natural gas vehicles have been excluded from the incentive scheme.
