French alternative fuels infrastructure company Proviridis, a provider of CNG, LNG and hydrogen fueling stations, has opened a new station in Saint-Martin-de-Crau, a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. Under the fuel brand name ‘V-GAS’, the company is expanding its presence across southern France. Associated with the Saint-Martin initiative, the local transportation company CFC Transports has acquired its first gas-powered heavy-duty tractor.
Supported by the Proviridis start-up (whose main shareholder is the Caisse des Dépots et Consignations), the project aims to network the entire regional territory within three years, using its innovative equipment to meet the environmental challenges and economic constraints of consumers. Their objective is 18 CNG stations under the VGAS brand. This alternative fuel generates 25% fewer CO2 emissions compared to diesel and 95% less fine particles.
Located in the Ecopole (economic activity) zone, the site is a new step in the deployment of the “V-GAS” network of stations across France and follows the completion of the Fos-sur-Mer station in 2017, the first to be deployed in the PACA (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur) region. The new V-GAS station is equipped with two LNG distributors and a CNG distributor and has a pump attendant to support drivers, especially for liquid gas refueling. Accessible to all and open 24 hours a day, the new Saint-Martin-de-Crau station accepts “V-GAS”, UTA and DKV badges as well as credit card payments.
Fos is the site of a major port development operated by the Autonomous Port of Marseille and the station there is servicing port-generated traffic. The Saint-Martin site lies 30 km north where the main route from Fos connects with major routes to Arles, Avignon, Marseilles and beyond. A new station will soon be built closer to Avignon at Plan d’Orgon, the opening of which is planned before end of the year.
In June (2018), Proviridis opened an LNG filling station at Saint Quentin Fallavier, 30 km south east of Lyon. The station is located in the heart of the logistics hub, which sees daily between 5,000 and 8,000 trucks passing through, and is in very close proximity to the A43 motorway.
Proviridis has been declared laureate of the National Call for Proposals for “Integrated CNG Mobility Solutions” launched as part of Investissements d’Avenir by the Commissariat Général à l’Investissement (CGI) and ADEME, aimed at fostering the emergence of compressed natural gas powered road. This agreement allows carriers to benefit from assistance of EUR 10k in the acquisition of heavy vehicles running on natural gas refueling at V-GAS stations of the PACA Region.
