Okarche’s OEM Systems LLC (OEM) has been certified by Ford as a qualified vehicle modifier (QVM). OEM is the 8th company to earn Ford’s stamp of approval to modify the automaker’s trucks and vans, reports NewsOK. The new certification will allow OEM to convert heavy-duty Ford pickups and vans to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), without jeopardizing Ford’s engine and powertrain warranties.
Taren Robinson, OEM’s contract administrator, said Ford vehicles account for about 20 percent of OEM’s conversion business, but that figure is expected to rise with the company’s new certification.
The bulk of OEM’s business is fleet-based, but retail clientele is growing in respond to expanding refuelling infrastructure. Retail conversions were reportedly up nearly 50 percent in 2011.
The company had carried out more than 2,000 CNG conversions by early February and expects to complete its 3,000th conversion before the end of the year.
