MAN Cryo – MAN Energy Solutions’ marine LNG fuel-gas-system manufacturer – is to supply an LNG fuel-gas supply system for a Norwegian live-fish carrier ordered by Nordlaks, one of Norway’s largest aquaculture companies. The new vessel will be a sister to an identical vessel ordered during the summer of 2018 – again for Nordlaks – for which MAN Cryo also won the order to provide the fuel-supply system.
The LNG fuel-gas supply system forms part of an innovative, hybrid gas-battery propulsion solution – a first for the segment.
Designed by NSK in Norway, the sister vessels will be built at Tersan Shipyard in Turkey. Tersan has over the years built a number of LNG-powered vessels and this will be the 5th since 2016 that is equipped with a marine fuel-gas system delivered by MAN Cryo.
Louise Andersson, Head of MAN Cryo, said: “These orders mark our entry into a new marine segment with its own unique demands. Nordlaks’ interest in exploiting sustainable technology fits seamlessly with our ambition to become a leading supplier within sectors where there is a growing demand for LNG-fuelled solutions. We are very pleased with this order from Tersan and look forward to continuing our cooperation with such a valued customer.”
MAN Cryo’s scope of supply for each vessel covers:
- 2 × vertical vacuum insulated 146-m3 LNG tanks, each with 2 × redundant ‘tank connecting spaces’
- 2 × BS100-GR bunker stations
- 2 × HEU 100 glycol-heat exchanger units.
Upon construction, the vessels will have a length of 84.25 m, a breadth of 19.0 m, and will be capable of transporting over 600 tons of live fish, particularly salmon and trout. The carriers are designed for operation at aquaculture facilities in more exposed waters and delivery of the latest vessel is expected during 2021.
MAN Energy Solutions took over fuel-gas specialist Cryo AB in 2015 and and fully integrated it into its business. Under the brand MAN Cryo, the company offers systems for the storage, distribution and handling of liquefied gases.
