Indian-Manufactured CNG Composite Cylinders Complete Trials

Time Technoplast Lite Safe CNG CylinderIndian technology and innovation company Time Technoplast Ltd, based in Mumbai, says it has completed successful trial production and testing of carbon fibre based Composite Cylinders for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for automotive applications, the first time this has been done in India.

The Company has developed 60 ltr & 30 ltr non-metallic Type-4 Composite Cylinders which are able to withstand burst pressure of over 550 bars, exceeding the requirement of ISO 11439 & IS 15935: 2011.

Time Technoplast will shortly commence the process of getting approval from independent 3rd party and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) before putting them on field trials. PESO operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy &  Promotion, Government of India.

The Company says these LiteSafe Composite Cylinders offer numerous technical and operational advantages over conventional steel cylinders for the same application:

  • Corrosion & Rustproof
  • Conforms to the highest international standards

In Time Technoplast’s investor press notification, it says automotive companies are keen to replace metal cylinders with Composite Cylinders to reduce weight and improve upon fuel efficiency. These Cylinders are likely to find their way both with OEM and aftermarket. It also has a huge export potential.

The Company is planning to launch these CNG cylinders in 2nd half of FY 2018-’19 after obtaining necessary approvals and extensive trials.
