Gothia Tanker Alliance (Furetank Rederi AB, Rederi AB Älvtank and Thun Tankers BV ), based in Gothenburg, Sweden has ordered four dual-fuel intermediate product/chemical tankers with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion, to be built by Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd in China. Two of the 16,300 dwt – 20,000 m3 cargo capacity vessels will be owned by Furetank, and one each by Älvtank and Thun Tankers.
The 149.9-metre-long tankers will be built to a design developed by Swedish matrine designer FKAB together with Furetank with special focus on minimal impact on the environment, with close to 50 % reduction of CO2 emissions. The vessels fulfill the IMO Tier III rules, have dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption, LNG for Inert gas production, power production with floating frequency, battery backup (UPS) for all vital functions to minimize use of auxiliary engines, installed ballast water cleaning system, ice class 1A and Alternative Propulsion System.
”It has been very interesting and developing for Furetank together with FKAB to create a design for future product/chemical tankers. These vessels will be designed to meet all known future demands both from governments, the industry and from our customers,” said Lars Höglund, CEO Furetank Rederi AB.
The vessels will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance. Delivery is scheduled for 2018/2019.
According to the press release, emissions will be reduced by:
- CO2 49%*
- NOx 84%
- SOx 99%
- Particles 99%
*CO2 can be eliminated if BIO gas is used
