Endesa, a major energy provider in Spain and Portugal, has signed an 8-year agreement with the French transport company CityLogistics to supply vehicular natural gas and renewable natural gas (biomethane) for the company’s entire fleet of vehicles in Lyon, a city in France’s Rhône-Alpes region.
The use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a fuel will allow for vehicle fleet operating costs to be reduced and will represent a significant environmental improvement, since the renewable gas allows particulate emissions to be reduced by 95%, SOx emissions by 100% and NOx emissions by 65%. Additionally, it is considered neutral in terms of CO2 emissions.
As part of the agreement, Endesa will also finance, construct and manage energy services for a new natural gas supply station for vehicles in Lyon. This station will go into service at the end of November (2015).
Endesa says this project is part of the new energy trading business development plan and value-added services that the company will implement in the coming years in France.
Endesa, which is part of the Enel group, began selling gas in Europe in 2000, and currently has a strong presence in France, where it provides energy solutions to professionals and large customers, with a long term implementation strategy.
