CNG-Modified Proton Exora x 1000 for Malaysian Taxi Fleet

| Malaysia, Subang Jaya

Proton ExoraAs part of its continuous support to the Malaysian Government and in-line with the Government Transformation Plan (GTP), Proton has collaborated with Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD) on the ‘1Malaysia Taxi Program’ initiative. The collaboration sees the national automotive company providing a specially modified version of the popular MPV, the Exora, as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered taxis.

The natural gas system is factory-installed and the CNG cylinder is located at the rear of the back seats. Although the Exora normally has three rows of seats, these modified taxis have the third row removed to provide a large storage space for traveler luggage and the cylinder.

1000 taxis will be delivered by Proton to SPAD commencing June 2013 with the first 200 units and henceforth, on staggered basis until complete delivery at the end of October 2013.

The introduction of the new CNG-powered taxis is expected not just to improve Malaysia’s taxi industry and services, but also assist in promotion of the Malaysian tourism industry.
