Chart, designer and manufacturer of highly engineered cryogenic equipment, and Ground Force Worldwide (GFW), an international mining equipment manufacturer, have collaborated in the development and launch of the first mobile dual LNG/diesel refueller.
It was specifically designed and built for a large rock quarry customer in Florida where it will be used as a fueling solution. The quarry operator recently converted their fleet of haul trucks, which were retro-fitted with LNG conversions.
The truck is based on a Kenworth T800 and Chart’s Orca unit, which celebrates its 21st birthday this year. Originally developed as the most efficient way of delivering packaged atmospheric gases, the latest incarnation of this most versatile unit bears testament to its longevity and durability. Chart’s Orca MicroBulk delivery system makes on-site distribution for smaller accounts a profitable reality.
The two companies hadn’t worked together previously and this was GFW’s first excursion into LNG and cryogenics but both companies pronounced the collaborative effort a resounding success. With the mining sector showing increased interest in LNG and the major rigid truck OEMs developing LNG and LNG/diesel hybrid haulers, there’s certainly scope for this valuable partnership to flourish.
Importantly, the partners have been able to gather information from the field with the quarry reportedly impressed with the unit’s build quality and an ability to fuel 50% faster than with its previous system.
