Biomethane-Powered Scirocco GT 24 Now Leads STCC Championship

| Sweden, Falkenberg

Ekblom celebrates his third win of STCC 2011.

Team, with its three biomethane-powered 1998 cc VW Motorsport Scirocco GT 24 cars, has just cause to celebrate. After the fifth racing event of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) series held at Falkenberg, the fastest racing circuit in Scandinavia, driver Fredrik Ekblom goes into the lead of the Championship with 125 points. In a thrilling first race Ekblom started in pole position and held off all-comers to notch up his third win of the season. The second race saw him start in eighth position, in accordance with race rules, where he also finished – a strong enough performance to head the championship by just two points.

In addition, the entire team takes the lead in the manufacturers’ championship as the STCC moves into a summer break.

The weekend also marked the success of Patrik Olsson. After qualifying as the seventh car, he finished fifth in the first heat. For the second he started in fourth place, and although he had confrontations with Tobias Johansson and was forced to swerve into the grass, he completed the race also in fourth, narrowly missing a podium position. Olsson is placed 9th on the championship table, with 57 points.

Team Manager Tommy Kristoffersson is of course happy for the weekend and the lead in both championships. “We go from here with the goal met”, he declared.

The next race meet is August 13, at GellerĂ¥sen.
