Zietlow Travels the Panamericana

The Caddy Ecofuel bound for Tierra del Fuego in South America

Setting off from Santiago on December 29th, where the trans-shipped VW Caddy Maxi Ecofuel was eased out of its container, Rainer Zietlow has commenced the Panamericana leg of his global cng-powered journey. Zietlow’s goal is to travel the two longest roads in the world, the Amur Transcontinental and the Panamericana, using only compressed natural gas for fuel. First heading south through Chile, the Caddy reached Tierra del Fuego on Jan 1st, before heading north again into Argentina and Uruguay.

As he traveled north Zietlow observed that more and more cars had been converted to natural gas. Now in Brazil he notes that, “Today, 80% of all cabs in Buenos Aires are driven with natural gas. This [has] led to a perceptible reduction of air pollution in the city centre.”

The end-goal is to reach and refuel at the Barrow natural gas filling station by 2nd April.
