October 5, 2005

Yusen Terminals Inc. (YTI), is scheduled to take delivery this week of the marine terminal industry’s first yard tractors powered by clean burning liquefied natural gas (LNG).

With permits already in hand for a temporary LNG refueling station, YTI will be the first marine terminal operator to place these clean units into daily service.
According to Tom Simmers, President and CEO of Yusen Terminals Inc. the LNG tractors, which are to be powered by Cummins Westport engines, will reduce NOx and PM emissions by 65 percent and 80 percent respectively.

Kalmar Industries, who designed and built the tractor, has already received orders from other buyers for similar units. Fuel for the tractor is to be supplied by Applied LNG until a large scale refuelling facility is established at the port in 2008.
