Woodchip Transporter to Build LNG Plant for Fleet Refueling

The Noske Group, a Melbourne-based bulk transport logistics solutions service provider, is an active participant in the Australian government’s Greenhouse Challenge which aims to reduce GHGs, integrate greenhouse issues into business decision-making, and increase corporate environmental responsibility. Noske operates what they state to be one of the most energy efficient transport fleets in the industry, now to be complemented by the building of a liquid natural gas (LNG) refuelling facility in Portland to supply its high productivity freight vehicles.

According to an ABC report, the company plans to start using the extra long trucks in July 2010, to help transport woodchips from South-West Fibre’s Myamyn mill to the Port of Portland.  Its operations manager, Tony Noske, says the trucks will run on LNG to minimise their impact on the environment. He is hopeful the refuelling station will encourage other transport companies to convert their fleets to LNG.

“Vehicles running on LNG have got to have the ability to refuel around about every 800 kilometres, and with no other refuelling facilities in the region, it’ll limit the take-up but as time goes by I imagine there’ll be more facilities for refuelling,” Noske said.
