VW Scirocco Biogas Team Reaches STCC Podium for First Time

Biogas.se team reaches STCC podium with a second place in Round 8 (Olsson on left)

After numerous challenges the VW Scirocco Biogas team is now competing for podium positions in the Swedish STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championships). It took only eight race weekends before Team Biogas.se stood on the podium for the first time in Sweden’s toughest racing series. Patrik Olsson was second in the Ring Knutstorp.

The racing campaign was launched at the first STCC event of 2009, with each event resulting in vehicle adjustments. The Volkswagen crew made several changes to the vehicle during the summer break of the championship, including weight redistribution and reduction (80kgs), and improvements to suspension, giving improved performance and confidence for the final races of the 10-event season.

Biogas.se describes how round 8 unfolded early in September; “One of the two Volkswagen Scirocco NGVs crashed during the first race, and thus had to start in the last position at the second race. This car, however, completed a remarkable second race ending up in fifth position in the 24-car race. The other Scirocco car ran eighth in the first race, and then, starting in pole position, managed to secure a second overall position in the second race.”

“This is among the most fun I have. It is well recognized that I have been fortunate in my side this weekend, but the whole team has struggled on and did a fantastic job, ” said a happy Patrik Olsson after the award ceremony.
