Venezuela NGV Component Imports Eased by New Legislation

August 10, 2009 | Source: El Universal | Venezuela, Caracas

The Venezuelan Government has published in Official Gazette number 39235 standards for granting permits for import of equipment, components, accessories and storage cylinders for compressed natural gas and liquified petroleum gas. Equipment for CNG and LPG must comply with the rules set by COVENIN (Commission for Industrial Standards). Authorizations for the purchase of these goods will be delivered by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. Promulgated in Venezuela’s Year of the Natural Gas Vehicle, the legislation will assist carrying out of the government’s Autogas plan which sets a quota of 30% of new vehicle sales to be bi-fuelled (petrol/natural gas), increasing to 40% in 2010.

According to a report by El Universal, the resolution says that “the issuance of an import permit is required for that person to complete the import process within a maximum of six months. This period starts from the date of issuance of that permit and can be extended by request for justifiable reasons”.
