Vanzetti Engineering Opens Italy’s First Public LCNG Fuelling Station

August 30, 2010 | Italy, Moretto

The Vanzetti-engineered L-CNG fuelling station is open for business in Cuneo.

Vanzetti Engineering S.r.l. has completed construction of Italy’s first public Liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) fuelling station. The station has been built at Villafalletto (Cuneo), about 50km south of Vanzetti’s base in Moretta, in the country’s north-west region. Featuring made-in-Italy technology, it has a capacity of 600 Nm3/h and is set to refuel up to 500 Kg/h. It operates independent of any pipeline supply.

Vanzetti carried out several tests during past months on the refueling process and cryogenic system functioning, verifying what they refer to as key strengths for their technology. The refuelling time, for instance, averaged a reduction of 50% vs traditional CNG stations while providing a ‘complete’ CNG tank refill. The company says drivers are reporting a 10% improved performance compared to conventional CNG.

Vanzetti claims to be the first and only Italian company able to design, project and fully implement a refuelling station of such a kind at present. By installing and integrating all cryogenic components within the system, the Company completed it’s experience cycle in the cryogenic industry which begun almost 27 years ago within the air gases industry. Over the past five years it has invested in research and technologies for LNG applications.

LNG is delivered by Polargas, pipeline-free.

LNG supply is by Polargas, an affiliated company of Vanzetti Engineering. The level of stored gas is monitored electronically with feedback direct to Polargas for management of gas reserves.

There are about 10 LCNG stations already developed with Vanzetti Engineering technology across Europe today and 20 more are currently either in progress, under development or in planning phase across Italy and Europe.

Incorporated into the station design is provision for refuelling LNG heavy duty trucks, ready for anticipated market commercialization of these vehicles. LNG is expected to extend natural gas fuel supply and adoption in Italy and Europe as it transcends the limitations of insufficient pipeline pressures or complete pipeline absence.
