
CNG transit buses in Fresno CA await passengers.
The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) plans to make discretionary funding available under the Clean Fuel Grant Program and the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) Program. The total amount of funding is expected to be $81.2 million for the Clean Fuel Grant Program and $75 million for TIGGER. The purpose of the Clean Fuels program is to assist areas meet national ambient air quality standards and to support the use of emerging clean fuel and advanced propulsion systems.
This program funds new buses as well as infrastructure for clean fuels. NGVAmerica says that in the past, a significant share of the funding under this program has gone to projects involving natural gas buses. Applications for the Clean Fuels funding are due by June 14, 2010.
The TIGGER program will focus on innovative technologies that have national significance. TIGGER funds may be used for capital expenditures that result in reduced energy use or reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Applications for TIGGER funding are due by August 11.
