Tulsa Transit prepares for refuelling replacement CNG-powered buses arriving end of this year.
US company Trillium USA, based in Utah is to build a compressed natural gas filling station in Oklahoma for Tulsa Transit, in readiness for stimulus-funded, CNG-powered buses which will start arriving at the end of the year, reports local news agency Tulsa World. Construction is to commence this summer. The $2.1 million cost of the station will be paid over 10 years from Tulsa Transit’s savings by converting from diesel to CNG.
Tulsa Transit General Manager Bill Cartwright reportedly said the plan is to eventually have Tulsa Transit’s entire fleet running on compressed natural gas, which would mean a $500,000 annual savings. The stimulus funds are being used to replace 18 of the 62 fixed-route buses and 26 of the 35 Lift Program para-transit minibuses, with the possibility of further replacements to CNG-fueled vehicles as funding allows.
