Toyota in the US has highlighted the introduction of CNG forklifts
among it’s environmental achievements for the past year in an
environmental update released last week.
In February, Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. (TMHU) began offering
a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system option for a number of its
forklift models.
The system is certified to meet strict U.S. EPA and CARB mandates for
emissions of hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and carbon. The fuel
system’s closed-loop design automatically adjusts and optimizes the
air-fuel mixture ratio, working in conjunction with a three-way
catalytic converter.
According to the release, TMHU is the only lift truck manufacturer to offer a factory-installed CNG option.
Toyota has also teamed up with FuelMaker to provide CNG refueling
systems to Toyota’s forklift customers. The systems allow on-board
refueling of lift trucks in less than two minutes and are available for
fleets as small as a single forklift and as large as more than seventy.
