Toll Ipec launches trial of Isuzu CNG trucks in Canberra
The Canberra operations for Toll Ipec Pty Ltd in Australia will provide the testing ground for two CNG-powered express parcel delivery trucks – an Isuzu NPR 300 CNG and an Isuzu FSR 700 CNG. The vehicles, first mooted for introduction into Australia in April 2009, were officially handed over at Canberra’s ACTewAGL refueling facility. If the trial is successful the company may grow its national CNG fleet to around 300 vehicles, said Toll IPEC group general manager Rodney Johnston.
“CNG for use as a transport fuel is receiving increased consideration from government and major fleets because it delivers both environmental and cost benefits for operators. We are expecting these vehicles to produce emissions savings of up to 30 per cent,” Johnston added.
The CNG trucks to be released comfortably exceed Japanese New Long Term 05 (EuroV equivalent) emissions standards, a level not mandated in Australia until 2011. In the areas of PM (Particulate Matter) and NOx (combination of Nitrogen Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide) emissions, the vehicles surpass EuroVI standards.
Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) national fleet sales manager Dean Stuhldreier said: “Isuzu has been committed to CNG technology for more than 10 years, and the latest CNG-powered trucks not only offer comparable power and torque to diesel equivalents, but in some instances even surpass them in performance.”
