Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid, S.A. (EMT)’s manager, Rafael Orihuela, has presented the first CNG-electric hybrid buses to join the Madrid urban fleet. Manufactured by Carrocera Castrosua S.A., based in Santiago de Compostela, seven (model) Tempus buses will operate in the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) of the capital, on line 41, which runs between Atocha and the Colony Manzanares. G-City Concept Vehicle Uses Biomethane and Electricity

At the ‘Techno Buzz’ session of the Mobilis 2011 conference held mid-November in Belfort, France, a new natural gas – electric concept car was presented. This vehicle, a partnership between GDF Suez (CRIGEN), FAM Automobiles and France Craft, is said to be the first natural gas / biomethane to electric traction vehicle. Drive Projects Will Demonstrate Efficiency of Heavy Duty Natural Gas Engines

The pick-up study was developed and designed as an in-house innovation project and presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010 in Germany and is demonstrated using a 1:4 scale model. Almost 50% of TMB’s fleet of 1,080 buses will be CNG-powered by 2015

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and Gas Natural Fenosa are trialling a new hybrid bus prototype with electric and natural gas engines, a pilot scheme under an agreement signed last April between TMB and Gas Natural Fenosa to reduce emissions from buses, with the aim of improving air quality in Barcelona and the metropolitan area. The prototype is to be incorporated provisionally into the TMB fleet and Gas Natural Fenosa will study the benefits in terms of reducing energy consumption and emissions and thus its viability for future use. The city of Mumbai will have two Tata Motors CNG-electric hybrid buses on its streets this week, trialled by public transport provider Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), reports The Times of India. BEST will conduct a month-long trial and later order more depending on the feedback. Hyundai Hybridizes CNG Bus: ‘Blue City’

South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the nation’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid bus, the ‘Blue-City’. Fully developed in Korea, the bus  delivers fuel efficiency with lower emissions by using a CNG engine and an electric motor. The hybrid bus is equipped with a G-CNG Engine that offers 177kW (240ps) and a 6-speed automated manual transmission, while its 60kW (82ps) electric motor and 3.8kWh lithium-polymer battery enable safe driving and efficient charging. La Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT) will invest 51 million euros in the acquisition of 165 new buses by 2012, all compressed natural gas (CNG) models. Included for the first time will be CNG/electric hybrid buses; of the 165 buses 142 will be CNG buses and 23 will be hybrid models. Tata Delivers CNG Hybrid Buses in Time for Commonwealth Games

Tata Motors has presented four CNG-Electric Hybrid Low-floor Starbuses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), to be run in the city during the Commonwealth Games period which commences October 3.   Tata says this is the first time in India that hybrid buses will be used for public transportation.
