New Flyer Industries Inc., manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada, has been awarded a contract for 265 30-foot and 40-foot heavy-duty buses with compressed natural gas (CNG) propulsion by Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). The contract contains a firm order of eight Low Floor Restyled CNG 30-foot buses and 80 Xcelsior™ CNG 40-foot buses with options for an additional 177 Xcelsior CNG or hybrid 40-foot buses to be exercised at a later date. Argentoil S.A. Announces Approval of INFLEX Type 4 Cylinder

Argentoil Type IV CylinderArgentoil S.A., manufacturer of INFLEX cylinders, has been developing a lightweight type 4 cylinder over the past three years and has now gained NGV2:2007 certification, inspected and issued by the international certification entity, Bureau Veritas. The volume of the cylinders initially ranges from 60wl up to 155wl – equivalent to 13.7 GGE and 12 DGE, and will be extended to 250wl – equivalent to 22 GGE and 19.3DGE – in the short term. Maruti Suzuki Launches Sixth CNG Model – ‘Ertiga Green’

Maruti Suzuki ErtigaIndian car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (Maruti) has launched the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) variant of it’s award winning 7-seater utility vehicle, the Ertiga. Badged as the ‘Ertiga Green’, the MPV will be available in LXi and VXi variants. CenterPoint Energy Natural Gas Vehicle Initiatives Grown NGV Fleet

Texas-based energy provider CenterPoint Energy will add 35 natural gas vehicles to its fleet across Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas in 2013. The Volvo V 60 Bi-Fuel made its world premiere in conjunction with NGVA Europe’s automotive gas fair, NGV 2013, in Gothenburg this week. The V60, unveiled as part of the first day’s study tour, is expected to go on sale in October this year, in Sweden. The Bi-fuel version is  certified to meet Sweden’s new stricter environmental regulations which commenced start of 2013, qualifying the vehicle for significant tax concessions. Read more »

The natural gas fueled Fiat TwinAir Turbo engine has been voted the Best Green Engine of the Year 2013.  The results of the 2013 International Engine of the Year Awards were announced at Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany on June 5. The US State of Pennsylvania has made available an estimated $10 million in grants through the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program for organizations, non-profit agencies, for profit companies, commonwealth or municipal authorities and local transportation organizations in Round 2 of funding which opened May 25th. The grant funds available will include an opportunity to propose projects which will convert or purchase natural gas vehicles (NGVs) weighing less than 14,000 pounds as well as convert or purchase other alternative fuel vehicles. Russian vehicle manufacturer GAZ Group has tendered successfully to provide traditional-fuel and compressed natural gas (CNG)-fuel buses to Moscow’s Department of Transport. Equipment will be delivered to the customer by the fall of 2013. Buses will be involved in the urban transport system of Moscow. The natural gas buses include 16 LIAZ-5292 and 4 LiAZ 6213 buses. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev on 13th May signed a decree prepared by the Ministry of Energy of Russia that will change the face of transportation in his country. The decree includes an order to “develop a set of legal, economic and organizational measures of the state to support the production, release into circulation and trafficking in motor vehicles and agricultural equipment to natural gas, creating traffic fueling and service infrastructure, statistical systems and technical regulation for natural gas as a motor fuel”. Rosneft Signs Agreements with VW and Kamaz to Boost Gas Engine Fuel Market

Russian oil and gas company OJSC Rosneft and LLC Volkswagen Group Russia have signed an agreement aimed at the development of the compressed natural gas (CNG) market in Russia, as well as the CNG-powered vehicles market. Rosneft has also signed an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation with vehicle manufacturer KAMAZ Truck Sp. z o.o. to expand use of natural gas as motor fuel.
