California Continues Funding for NGV Projects
The California Energy Commission has approved funding for a number of projects that will support increased numbers of cleaner, alternative fuel vehicles on California roadways, thereby helping the state meet its climate change goals. The awards were made through the Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology (ARFVT) Program, created by Assembly Bill 118. 2013-2014 funding priorities have also been set, with both programs including support for natural gas vehicle projects. Tesco Heavy Goods Transported with Gasrec Bio-LNG
British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer Tesco has committed a fleet of heavy goods vehicles to fill up at facilities run by Gasrec, supplier of Bio-LNG. The deal will cut Tesco’s CO2 emissions by a minimum of 15 percent, with a 90 percent reduction in NOx and particulate matter emissions, helping Tesco to achieve its target of reducing emissions per case of goods delivered by 25 percent by 2020 (from 2011 baseline). Sweden Extends Alt-Fuel Tax Incentive for 3 Years
The Government of Sweden has extended the reduced tax benefit on company cars powered by alternative fuels for another three years, seen as a stimulus to sales of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) by member-funded industry organisation Energigas Sweden. More natural gas vehicles on the road will reduce emissions, especially given natural gas fuel in the country comprises more than 50% biomethane derived from renewable resources. Read more »
Carrefour Rolls Out First Biomethane Lorries
Global retailer Carrefour is testing its first lorries running on biomethane fuel produced using waste from its stores. Run in partnership with GNVERT, a subsidiary of the GDF SUEZ Group, haulage company Perrenot and manufacturing company Iveco, these vehicles will be making deliveries to around fifteen Carrefour stores in the Lille region of France.

Share of biomethane in natural gas fuel has more than doubled since 2012
In the past year, the share of biomethane in natural gas fuel has risen in Germany from 6 to over 15 percent, according to Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) – the German Energy Agency. Volvo Trucks and Shell have agreed to cooperate globally on the introduction of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a fuel for commercial heavy duty trucks. Based on Volvo’s new MethaneDiesel concept whereby LNG can be used in diesel engines, and Shell’s LNG expertise and infrastructure investments, the two companies will coordinate their activities and actively support the wider use of LNG in the transport sector. Largest UK CNG Filling Station to Open in Crewe

Gasrec, the UK’s first commercial producer of Liquid Biomethane (LBM), is to provide home improvement retailer B&Q with eco-friendly fuel for a fleet of 50 dual-fuel lorries under a new partnership. The fuel used to power the lorries comprises 60 percent biomethane, the natural green source of renewable energy produced from organic matter such as household food waste and sewage. Philippine Government Passes Incentives to Stimulate Alt-Fuel Vehicle Uptake
At the end of January 2013, the Philippine Senate passed Senate Bill No. 2856 entitled An Act Providing Incentives for the Manufacture, Assembly, Conversion and Importation of Electric, Hybrid and other Alternative Fuel Vehicles, and for Other Purposes. ENOC and Dubai Sign MoU to Convert Flared Biogas to Biomethane Fuel
ENOC signs MoU with Dubai Municipality
Emirates Gas LLC (EMGAS), a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Municipality to treat land and sewage waste to generate Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). EMGAS is now setting up an advanced facility to convert waste to biomethane, from what is currently being flared, and then compress it into CNG that will be used as an automotive green fuel.
