USA
By all accounts, the US National NGV Conference-Summit held at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno this past Sunday and Monday was a success. Over one hundred industry stakeholders attended the event, which was held in conjunction with WasteCon, the Solid Waste Association of North America’s annual convention and exposition, where NGVAmerica and 17 members created an NGV Zone that was the largest exhibit area on the floor.
The Sunday afternoon Annual Meeting and Board Meeting was well attended
with a full agenda that included staff briefings on regulatory and
legislative issues, market outreach and education activities, a
discussion about the need to resurrect an NGV RDD&D needs
assessment and program guidance mechanism, and efforts to recruit new
LDC and OEM members. Sunday evening’s reception at the National
Automobile Museum – featuring the Harrah Collection – was a real hit
with attendees. NGVAmerica invited municipal refuse collection and
landfill site managers who were in town for WasteCon to attend this
event as our guests.
Monday’s full agenda began with highlights of CVEF’s NGV market study
and roadmap developed for the US DOE, followed by Rich Kolodziej’s
keynote presentation. This was followed by spresentations focusing on
the California Energy Commission’s outlook for NGVs’ potential
contributions to diversifying the state’s fuel use and the necessary
NGV RD&D that will be needed to achieve those targets. A roundtable
of NGV RDD&D experts finished off the morning session.
The afternoon included a session examining the role that hydrogen
blending and hybrid technologies may play in our future, a roundtable
on how to build NGV momentum in the refuse sector, highlights of a port
emissions study that lays out the potential for NGVs, and an industry
leaders roundtable. All the NGV Conference-Summit attendees were then
treated to an evening reception as guests of SWANA. NGVAmerica wants
to especially thank our conference sponsors who helped make the
conference possible – Clean Energy, Pacific Gas and Electric, American
Honda and the American Clean Skies Foundation
On Tuesday morning, about 25 NGV industry representatives worked the
NGV Zone at WasteCon at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center located
adjacent to the Atlantis. The show ran through Thursday noon. Exhibit
traffic at WasteCon was moderate but most participants agree was of
very high quality. In addition to the exhibit, Stephe Yborra presented
an NGVs 101 workshop Monday afternoon at the Atlantis (yes, while the
NGV Conference-Summit was underway) and then presented again Wednesday
morning at a WasteCon breakout session.
NGV Conference-Summit presentations will be posted to the NGVAmerica
web site this coming week and video feeds of the sessions should be
available for downloading soon. For more information about the NGV
Conference-Summit, the NGV Zone at WasteCon or other upcoming events,
