CNG in the Czech Republic http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/country-reports/cng-in-the-czech-republic-02120.html Czech CNG Refuelling MapCzech Republic, Prague

0% excise and road tax rates for CNG
Monthly gas pricing reviews to ensure price advantage
1,153 natural gas vehicles but growing
17 CNG fueling stations operational - 8 more expected by year end
Prague conference scheduled for January 2009

With road transport currently growing in the Czech Republic, by 12 per cent every year, promoting natural gas vehicle use is one of the major measures intended to reduce pollutant emissions from transport. In May 2005 the Czech Government approved the Programme of Support for Alternative Fuels in Transport – Natural Gas. The programme set forth some solutions that have since helped to create a stable and attractive environment for the development of natural gas use in transport.

CNG Rocks Young and Old! http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/people/cng-rocks-young-and-old-02176.html Young-CNG-Hybrid-Lincoln.jpgUSA, Kansas

Legendary rocker Neil Young has made a special appearance during Salesforce.com's Dreamforce conference keynote address, where he talked about his 1959 Mark IV Lincoln Continental. Cnet reported Young has spent more than $100,000 to green his 5,000-pound "Thinkin' Lincoln" former gas hog. "It's a piece of America art," said Young, who is an avid car collector. He hopes to get the equivalent of 100 miles per gallon and take the $10 million Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize. "We are over halfway there (to 100 mph) with this car," he said. The original engine has been replaced with a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueled 1.3 litre Mazda engine, powering a hybrid generator and battery arrangement. Provision for a hydrogen on demand setup may also be made later on as a fuel supplement. See the Lincvolt website for more details, include video footage of Neil Young and the team at work on the project.

Harmonization of International NGV Standards http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/editorial-comment/harmonization-of-international-ngv-standards-02190.html One of the most important activities undertaken by IANGV in recent years has been the promotion of the harmonization of international standards for the natural gas vehicle (NGV) industry.

Global bodies such as United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) are working actively  towards harmonization of standards. This is because the cost of non-harmonized standards is a considerable burden on various industries including the NGV industry. For NGVs, this is particularly a problem at the moment due to the differences  between UNECE Regulation 110* and ISO Standards 15500 (Fuel System Components)  and 15501 Road Vehicles – Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Systems, which deal with the equipment and installation of CNG in vehicles.*

Two New NGV Related Directives Signed in Russia http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/policy/two-new-ngv-related-directives-signed-in-russia-02246.html Russia, Moscow

On November 17, 2008 the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed two Directives which will help to expand the  national natural gas vehicle (NGV) market. Directive # 1662-R  approved the Concept of the long term socio-economic development of the Russian Federation  till 2020. Chapter 6 of the Concept "Development of the energy infrastructure and building up of energy efficiency of the economy" provides that "stimulation of the use of natural gas as a motor fuel" shall be one of the priorities. Another Directive signed a few moments after the socio-economic Concept determined priorities for the Russian government till 2012.

Among other tasks Directive # 1663-R instructs the Government to prepare a Federal energy saving program, introduce innovative energy efficient technologies and develop NGV-related incentives.

IANGV Secretary-General to Enter Retirement at Year End http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/association-news/iangv-secretary-general-to-enter-retirement-at-year-end-02247.html Garth Harris NGV2008This month marks the end of an era for the IANGV with the retirement of Dr. Garth Harris, the inaugural Secretary-General of the Association. Garth has been with the IANGV since even before it was formed, having played a key role in the formation of the Association and bringing about some funding arrangements from the New Zealand government that allowed the organisation to be formed in New Zealand in 1986. Since that time Garth has held the position of Secretary-General, and it would be fair to say he had seen the industry goes through several evolutionary stages, reaching the point where we now have more than 9 million natural gas vehicles operating around the world.

CNG Metering Standard Published http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/safety-and-standards/cng-metering-standard-published-02248.html Yet another piece in the jigsaw of NGV standards had just been published. "Compressed gaseous fuel measuring systems for vehicles" OIML R 139 has been published by the International Organization for Legal Metrology.  This standard can be downloaded at no cost from www.oiml.org/publications/ document 139-e. The history of this standard starts in 1999 with the first committee draft of the standard being completed in 2000.

TIAX Report Confirms 21% Greenhouse Gas Reductions with Westport LNG Technology http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/technology/tiax-report-confirms-21-greenhouse-gas-reductions-with-westport-lng-technology-02249.html Canada, Vancouver

A study by California-based TIAX LLC has confirmed a 21% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in LNG trucks featuring a Westport ISX G engine and LNG fuel system based on a 10 year, 400,000 mile scenario. Under this scenario, a typical Westport LNG-equipped natural gas truck operating at the San Pedro Bay ports in California will realize reductions of 21 tonnes of GHG emissions per year compared to an equivalent diesel truck.

Compressed Natural Gas Fuelled Concrete Agitator Trucks Paving the Way in Australia http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/case-studies/compressed-natural-gas-fuelled-concrete-agitator-trucks-paving-the-way-in-australia-01251.html Australia, Sydney

ImageThird Generation Technology Hits the Sweet Spot for Fleet operator

In what is possibly a world first, Boral and IVECO Trucks have partnered in the development of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuelled agitators which are delivering remarkable environmental and efficiency benefits for Boral's concrete business in Sydney. In a fleet of 170 trucks most of which are IVECO Acco 2350G 8x4 diesel units, Boral has been a long time supporter of alternative fuels and has been testing five CNG powered trucks for the past six months with great success, mostly operating out of its Penrith, Preston and Liverpool sites.

Swedish NGV Status Update http://www.ngvglobal.com/en/country-reports/swedish-ngv-status-update-02090.html Peter Boisen, Chairman of NGVA Europe and Sweden's number one advocate for natural gas vehicles (NGVs), files this country report outlining industry developments in Sweden.

Executive summary

Sweden’s fleet of NGVs during the first half of 2008 increased from 14,536 to 15,474 vehicles. The number of filling stations went from 115 stations to 118 stations, and the gas sales increased by about 9 %. The fuel prices remained at about 70-80% of the corresponding price for gasoline.

Several large new Swedish projects for production of biomethane have been made public, and the industry is set to increase the sales of NG/biomethane by a factor 5 by 2014. Various new exciting product offers will together with continued investments in refuelling stations and biomethane production facilities be the main driver behind the planned market expansion.

EU policies will play an important role - increased support of the biomethane option, support of NG refuelling infrastructure developments, and the new mandatory CO2 emission targets introduced from 2012.
