Exceeds Euro 6
Rolande LNG B.V. (Rolande), a Kaatsheuvel-based specialist in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) for road transport applications, has facilitated what could be the first heavy-duty mono-fuel truck in Europe to run on liquid biomethane. Working in close cooperation with IVECO in the Netherlands, Rolande brought the concept to reality by converting an IVECO Stralis CNG to run on LNG/LBG. Rolande provided technical expertise and the cryogenic tanks and heat exchanger necessary to use LBG as a fuel.
The truck has been bought by Chr. Vermeer Transport B.V. in Dongen. It is currently being used to demonstrate and convince the transport industry of the many advantages of using LBG as fuel.
According to Rolande a truck running on LBG is:
- clean ( better than future Euro VI)
- quiet (5X lower noise level than a diesel – PIEK certified in the Netherlands)
- up to 80% CO2 neutral, and
- economical; using LBG can save between 2 and 5 Eurocents per km. The truck can run more than 1200 km before refueling.
The biomethane is delivered as a transport fuel using Rolande certified special tank trailers. It is sourced from landfill made from organic waste material. Production and transport of the gas is low energy, adding comparatively little to the carbon footprint.
The truck can be seen during the so called “Carrosserie Vakdagen” in Hardenberg — a regional transport show in the northern part of the Netherlands. Opening dates are 20-22 April 2010. Opening hours 14.00 – 22.00 hours. IVECO Stand in Hall 4A.
