Peterbilt Natural Gas Line-Up Reaches Full Production Capability

March 26, 2010 | USA, Denton TX
Model 384 day-cab

Peterbilt Model 384, equipped with a CNG/LNG powered Cummins Westport ISL G engine.

Peterbilt Motors Company has now reached full production capability for its CNG- and LNG-powered suite of models — the 384, 365 and 320 — at its truck manufacturing facilities in Denton, Texas. Bill Jackson, Peterbilt General Manager and PACCAR Vice President said, “At Peterbilt, we’re engineering environmental solutions that meet customers’ reliability and durability expectations through alternative fuel and hybrid platforms. These clean powered platforms provide an environmental option for customers, without jeopardizing quality or performance.”

All Peterbilt natural gas platform vehicles are equipped with the Cummins Westport ISL-G engine which offers a 320 horsepower rating and 1,000 ft-lbs. of torque and provides an extremely efficient fuel-to-power ratio. Peterbilt says the efficient and emissions compliant ISL-G natural gas engine produces horsepower and torque comparable in capability and service to the diesel engines.

The trucks use cooled EGR to lower in-cylinder exhaust gas temperature. The ISL-G engine has a maintenance free three way catalyst (TWC) that is 95% effective in NOx conversion and is highly effective in controlling all CO2 and hydrocarbons.
