Peru Ramps Up Refueling Station Numbers

February 14, 2007

Peru, Lima and Callao

Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Juan Valdivia, has inaugurated Peru’s sixth compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling station, doubling the number of public stations operating in the country since October. Numbers are expected to double again by April, when 11 stations are due to be operational.

As many as 20 stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2007, servicing 20,000 natural gas vehicles. Vehicle numbers have also increased dramatically since October, up from 3,300 vehicles to more than 6,000.

Natural gas vehicles have become a cornerstone of the Peruvian Government’s alternative fuel policy, with the government initiating a range of financing programs in late 2005.
