Omnitek Engineering Corporation has been granted a license from the Peruvian government to perform diesel-to-natural-gas conversions in the country. Known as the PEC or Productores de Equipos Completos (Complete Equipment Producers) license, the approval follows Omnitek’s formation of a joint venture in August this year to convert diesel engines to operate on natural gas, as well as provide services to re-power diesel trucks and buses utilizing Omnitek’s natural gas engines.
“Peru is firmly committed to taking advantage of the country’s excellent natural gas infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions. With receipt of the PEC license, Omnitek is well-positioned to participate in the rapid expansion of the natural gas market in Peru. Omnitek Peru is currently operating five conversion centers in Lima, with plans for further expansion,” said Werner Funk, CEO of Omnitek Engineering Corporation.
Industry sources estimate that conversions of diesel buses during the next few years will reach at least 20,000, and diesel truck conversions are expected to reach 50,000. “There are an estimated 500,000 heavy-duty diesel engines in Peru that could potentially be converted to operate on natural gas,” Funk added.
Omnitek has also signed an MOU this week with Thai based AsiaBIOGAS Co. Ltd, for the supply of conversion equipment for biomethane fuelled electricity generation equipment in the Philippines.
