Oklahoma City University Feasibility Study Ticks Natural Gas Vehicles

May 11, 2010 | Source: NewsOK | USA, Oklahoma

A feasibility study on natural gas vehicles by Oklahoma City University’s (OCU) Economic Research and Policy Institute points to positives for switching away from gasoline, including lowest price compared with other fuels, improved maintenance cycles, significantly reduced vehicle emissions and little or no particulate matter. Professor Steve Agee, the institute’s director, told NewsOK that based on current prices CNG is a feasible option as a transportation fuel, especially in fleet vehicles. The study acknowledged that NGVs in the USA are currently not easy to find, while an immature infrastructure is gaining in strength with the number of stations growing steadily — there are currently 35 in Oklahoma and more than 1300 nationwide.
