September 24, 2008

Norway

Norwegian Ferry operator Tide SJO AS has contracted shipbuilder Aker Yards to construct three liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled ferries with delivery commencing in early 2009. Erdgas.ch reports that the ferries will have a capacity of 600 passengers each for a total cost of 45 million Euros. The ferries are being built in Brittany, France. Aker Yards has previously built five LNG-diesel dual-fuel ferries which are currently operational on the west coast of Norway.
