Nigeria’s NIPCO Nears Completion of CNG Station

The Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company Plc (NIPCO), an incorporated body formed by members of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN),  has said that work on its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plant in Benin Edo State is now 95% completed. The firm had assured stakeholders that the plant would come on stream by the first quarter of 2010, once testing of installed equipment has satisfied compliance requirements.

The special Adviser to the President On Petroleum Matters, Dr Emmanuel Egbogah,  apparently commented that the CNG project is one of the efforts of government in partnership with the private sector to sustain the deregulation programme and encourage investment in refueling infrastructure, especially taking into consideration the abundant gas resources in the country.

Egbogah said, “The CNG project offers motorists’ opportunity for dual fuel usage as it complements use of petrol to power vehicles. It is an emerging fuel worldwide in view of its sterling advantages over other vehicular fuel.”

Nipco commenced work on four stations in Benin City with all of them nearing completion.
