NGVAmerica Testifies Before Senate EPW Committee

March 30, 2010 | USA

NGVAmerica President Rich Kolodziej has testified before the US Senate on the place for NGVs in America.

Growing Bi-Partisan Support for NGVs in USA

NGVAmerica President, Rich Kolodziej testified last week before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s hearing titled “Opportunities to Improve Energy Security and Environment through Transportation Policy”. The session was chaired by Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and ranking member Jim Inhofe (R-OK). Also in attendance were U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD), Tom Carper (D-DE), Tom Udall (D-NM) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR). The hearing provided Rich with several significant opportunities to tout the many benefits of using natural gas as a transportation fuel, the importance of Nat Gas Act (S. 1408) and other legislative objectives of NGVAmerica.

Kolodziej responded to questioning with a clear picture of opportunities for the natural gas vehicle industry to contribute to improved energy security. “NGVAmerica believes that the regulatory relief that has been proposed – streamlining certification, allowing carry-across certification of similar vehicles, and expanding the model year concept for aftermarket systems – are all reasonable steps that should be taken to facilitate the increased availability of natural gas fueled vehicles. If these provisions had been in place the last time petroleum prices surged, thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) more NGVs would be on the road today,” he stated.

In his opening remarks, Sen. Inhofe highlighted the growing bipartisan support for NGVs in the Congress.

Additional information may be obtained from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) website. A copy of the testimony has been posted on the NGVAmerica’s website.
