USA, Washington DC
NGVAmerica members have visited over 40 Senate and Houses offices last week as part of the organization’s annual Lobbying Days on Capitol Hill. As the Congress starts to prepare for future energy, climate change, agriculture and appropriations legislation, the meetings provided NGVAmerica members a personal venue to educate their Members and staffs and to discuss with them how the future content of these bills could affect their companies and our industry as a whole.
Members of Congress and their staffs indicated appreciation for stakeholders comments and looked forward to continued input. Issues discussed included but were not limited to extending the tax credits, the role of NGVs in achieving the President’s 35 billion gallon displacement goal, NGV RDD&D and Clean Cities funding, and the potential of biomethane and the need for biomethane incentives.
NGVAmerica Board Approves Legislative Agenda
The NGVAmerica Board also met last week, approving a 17-point legislative agenda for the 110th Congress. The agenda includes seven energy policy initiatives, six tax initiatives and four appropriations initiatives. Among these 17, the two highest priorities are extending existing fuel and vehicle tax credits and ensuring that NGVs are prominently included in any program to achieve the displacement of petroleum.
A copy of the legislative agenda will be posted on the NGVAmerica website this week.
Fact Sheets available
In preparation for the Lobbying Days discusses above, NGVAmerica prepared a series of fact sheets that could be useful to anyone working to make the case for increased NGV use. These fact sheets include:
• Why Ethanol and Biodiesel Alone Can Not Achieve 35 Billion Gallons of Petroleum Displacement by 2017
• Potential Contribution of NGVs to Displacing 35 Billion Gallons of Non-Petroleum Fuels by 2017
• Sequestering Greenhouse Gases from Landfills, Animal Waste, Sewage, and Other Sources Via Biomethane Production
The fact sheets will also be placed on the NGVAmerica website this week.
