
Based on preliminary feedback from almost 150 attendees, NGVAmerica’s 2009 Annual NGV Conference-Summit has been declared a resounding success. Themed Natural Gas Vehicles: North America’s Transportation Future – Today, the event included a meeting of the CVEF Technology Committee (TC), Annual Meeting, and Board Meeting. The event then progressed into a series of presentations and discussions, listed below:
- Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster gave a warm welcome and spoke briefly about his commitment and support of environmentally responsible government. Mayor Foster is serving his second term as Chairman of the US Council of Mayor’s Environmental Committee.
- Rich Kolodziej and Canadian NGV Alliance President Alicia Milner delivered keynote presentations covering their respective state-of-the-industry reports for the US and Canada.
- Chris McGill, Director of Policy Analysis for the American Gas Association gave a presentation on America’s natural gas resource noting that supply is abundant and diversified and well-positioned for substantial growth of the NGV market.
- Henry Hogo, Assistant Deputy Executive Officer of South Coast AQMD’s Mobile Source Division, spoke about the agency’s successful vehicle emissions policy making and enforcement process and its impact on the region’s air quality.
- Gladstein, Neandross & Associates CEO Erik Neandross then led a discussion about the potential role of LNG in North America’s transportation future with five panelists representing various LNG equipment and services providers.
- Dr. Jeffrey Seisler, CEO of Clean Fuels Consulting and a former executive director of NGV associations in both the US and Europe, reviewed the global NGV picture sharing his thoughts on common market development challenges and noting potential opportunities for increased engagement in international markets by US- and Canada- based companies.
- Stephe Yborra led a panel discussion addressing the need to get more “feet on the street” by making the most of advocate-ally relationships between LDCs, Clean Cities coalitions, OEMs and the financial community.
- John Boesel, President & CEO of CALSTART briefed attendees on the growing bio-gas/bio-methane market abroad and the renewable supply and green marketing opportunity it presents here at home.
- Rich Piellisch led a “customer feedback” panel discussion with AT&T’s VP of Fleet Operations Jerome Webber, Culver City (CA) Equipment Maintenance Manager Paul Condran, and former City of Asheville (NC) Fleet Director Chris Dobbins.

2009 NGV Achievement Awards Presented at NGV Conference-Summit
Annual NGV Achievement Awards, in recognition of persons and organizations whose actions contributed significantly to the increased use of natural gas as a vehicular fuel, were presented during the conference-summit. The five awards presented this year were:
- AT&T: NGV Fleet Deployment and Public Outreach Program
- Bob Carrick, Western Region Vocational Manager – Natural Gas, Freightliner Truck: Daimler Natural Gas Truck Commercialization Program
- Chesapeake Energy Corporation: Natural Gas Fleet and Public Outreach Program
- Culver City CA: NGV Fleet Deployment and CNG Station Program
- T. Boone Pickens – Founder and Chairman, B.P Capital: The Pickens Plan
