Strong government support a critical element for successful NGV implementation

The ANGVA-endorsed 2nd Annual CNG-NGV Asia Pacific Forum, held at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia on 3-5th August 2009, was well attended by people from various sector of the local NGV industry as well as overseas. Eight exhibitors were also present. An ANGVA Roundtable Session on ‘Successful Government to Private Enterprise Partnership in Pushing NGV Programmes’ was facilitated by ANGVA Executive Director, Mr Lee Giok Seng. The ANGVA report says discussion focused on the need of strong government support as one critical factor in implementing a successful NGV programme.

Panel members from Pakistan, India, Thailand, Bangladesh and Indonesia shared their practical and successful case studies related to each country at this fruitful open discussion.

Papers presented on the second day focused on CNG status, plan and prospects in Indonesia. Speakers from Thailand, Pakistan, Singapore and India shared their countries case studies and CNG status updates.

Held in conjunction with the Forum, ANGVA Green Highways 2009 was officially launched.  Team Indonesia started the Torch Relay for Green Highway from Indonesia to Korea. Green Highway from Iran to Korea was pending confirmation since Team Iran and Team Myanmar were not present. Team Leaders and Team Members from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Korea were present.

On the third day, a technical tour took delegates to the busy Jakarta Busway CNG buses, followed by a closing lecture by the ANGVA Executive Director, entitled ‘Overview of CNG Cylinder Safety’.
