New Hydrogen Facility and Proposed H2 Corridor for West Virginia

August 17, 2009 | Source: The Charleston Gazette | USA, Charleston WV

Charleston, capital of the US state of West Virginia, has opened its first hydrogen fueling station, at Yeager Airport. It is the first of three facilities to be built along a proposed hydrogen corridor between Charleston and Pittsburgh within the next few years. The next station is planned for Morgantown. Most hydrogen-powered vehicles have storage systems allowing 150 to 250 miles of travel between refueling.

The Charleston fueling station, designed and built by Parsons Engineering, is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory and Yeager Airport. Reported in The Charleston Gazette, The demonstration project is of limited capacity, designed to initially produce and dispense enough fuel for only a few vehicles each day. The airport is to receive three hydrogen-powered vehicles from the Department of Energy and will purchase a hydrogen-powered forklift.
