The Netherlands
From July 2 2009, producers of green gas in The Netherlands will be able to have the gas that they inject into the grid certified. The resulting certificates will then be available for trading, it was confirmed by project leader Geert Joosten of Gasunie, which will be responsible for marketing the certificates. The certification system is aimed at increasing the visibility of green gas and making it more negotiable, states John Baldwin of CNG Services Ltd. Joosten referred to the need to make some adjustments to rules and regulations to add integrity to the certificates, adding that thus far all has gone to plan. The green gas certificates will include information such as the quantity of gas injected and the origin of the gas and will be issued according to the number of MWh of green gas supplied. The move is likely to further encourage renewable natural gas developments to the benefit of natural gas vehicles.
