Natural gas/biogas consumption: urban 5.5 kgs/100km, rural 3.3 kgs/100km
CO2 Emissions: Natural gas (90%) / Biogas 10% – 98 g/km
Fiat S.p.A. will introduce the Natural Power Fiat 500 concept car, with its 1.4 litre turbo engine (115 h.p.), at the 80th International Geneva Motor Show (4 to 14 March 2010). Together with a selection of other natural gas turbo vehicles, the Fiat 500 will be on display at the stand of gasmobil ag, the centre of competence operated by the Swiss Natural Gas Association to promote mobility.
A salon-auto report describes the Fiat 500 1.4 Natural Power Turbo as blending “freshness, style and tradition with efficient engine technology and modern natural gas/biogas fuel.”
It delivers 115 h.p., and achieves top speed of 182 kmh regardless of fuel type. Natural gas/biogas consumption is just 5.5 kg/100 kms in town and 3.3 kgs/100 kms in rural areas. Fully fuelled, the Fiat 500 will travel 320 km on gas and 450 kms on petrol, providing a total 770 kms. CO2 emission for natural gas/biogas mix (90%:10%) is 98 g/km, natural gas only is 109 g/km and petrol is 149 g/km.
The car was developed by the Swiss Natural Gas Association with assistance from Fiat Switzerland and BRA GmbH in Schweinfurt (Germany).
At present, there are around 8,700 gas-powered vehicles on the roads in Switzerland, and the number of filling stations offering natural gas/biogas has grown to around 120.
