The successful world debut for the one-make Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, using biomethane fuel, has taken place at the renowned Hockenheim circuit in Germany. Maciek Steinhof (Poland) won the captivating season opener of the eco-conscious racing series, in front of Kris Heidorn (Germany) and Formula 1 legend Martin Brundle (Great Britain). The field of 24 entrants consisting of junior drivers, seasoned racers and four prominent motorsport legends showed a race that was full of diversity and remained captivating up to the final lap.
Thanks to the new type of push-to-pass function which puts 50 hp of additional power at the drivers’ fingertips the spectators at the Hockenheim “Motodrom” and in front of their TV sets witnessed spectacular overtaking manoeuvres.

Biomethane-powered Scirocco a winner environmentally!
VW Motorsport’s Scirocco R-Cup car, delivering up to 275 hp, is powered by biomethane produced from renewable resources which reduces CO2 emissions by 80 per cent compared with conventional powertrain concepts.
Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director said, ”We’re very happy, proud and extremely pleased: the world debut of the Scirocco R-Cup delivered first-class sport. The DTM provided the appropriate stage for us to present our ideas, such as the push-to-pass function and eco-conscious bio natural gas power, to a large and enthusiastic audience.”
