OES opens a CNG Service Station in Melbourne

65% price savings relative to petrol

Melbourne-based company, OES CNG Pty Ltd, has announced the opening of its first public access Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) service station, scheduled for April 28th. The fuel will be marketed as OES CNG SmartGas. The station in Aspendale Gardens will be the only public CNG station in the State of Victoria and may be followed by another five CNG service stations in the State during the next 12 months.

OES CNG is training a network of existing LPG qualified installers to carry out the CNG conversions to exacting standards and all of these installations will have a 3 year, 100,000km warranty.

A number of vehicle manufacturers have already released or announced CNG options in Australia.

Looking at overseas experience, where CNG as a transport fuel has been embraced as a clean and inexpensive alternative, OES sees enormous potential for this new fuel from private motorists through to heavy vehicle transport companies.  OES Manager Kevin Black siad, “Natural gas is an abundant indigenous fuel that can reduce Australia’s dependence on imported, and ever more costly oil products.”

The advantages of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) include the lowest life-cycle emissions of any fuel currently available in Australia and fuel cost savings of about 65% compared to petrol. The retail price of CNG will be the equivalent of 50 cents (USD 0.47) per litre for petrol and 33 cents (USD 0.31) per litre for LPG.
