Maruti Confirms 4 New CNG Models

June 19, 2010 | India, New Delhi
The Maruti Wagon R Hatchback - earmarked for bi-fuel (CNG/gasoline) launch soon.

The Maruti Wagon R Hatchback - earmarked for bi-fuel (CNG/petrol) launch soon.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), headquartered in  New Delhi, India, has informed NGV Global that CNG versions are planned for the Alto, Wagon R, Zen Estilo and SX4 models, with a tentative launch date of July/August this year. All models will be factory-fitted for bi-fuel (natural gas/gasoline) operation. The update from MSIL confirms the company’s intention, declared in May last year, to develop and produce a range of environmentally friendly vehicles. Specific product detail is not yet available. Maruti is using an in-house developed i-GPI (intelligent gas port injection) technology that will give the option of driving with either petrol or CNG, without any loss of power compared when switching to CNG. The system incorporates natural gas injectors imported from the United States.
