Germany’s MAFI Transport-Systeme GmbH, manufacturer of tractors for in-plant transportation in seaports, industry, logistic and distribution centres, has developed and designed a new terminal tractor for container handling in ports. This new tractor, type T 225 or T 230, is capable of carrying a GCW (gross combination weight) of 120 t and 34 t on the 5th wheel. A wide range of engines and transmissions are optionally available, including the implementation of a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) engine.
As fuel savings, reduction of CO2 emissions, creating a safer environment, etc. become more and more important, MAFI decided to implement within their tractors an alternative solution and to build their first gas driven Terminal Tractor. The company says the development of the new T-series was the perfect moment for implementing a new LNG-gas driven engine.
If desired the new MAFI Terminal Tractor can also be equipped with MEM (MAFI Eco Mode). This is an intelligent economic drive program which detects if the operation is with or without load. MEM shifts gears automatically up at lower engine revolution if there is reduced load detected. This results in fuel savings up to 20%, reduced operating costs, emissions and noise level.
MAFI will provide more detail on the LNG option in the near future.
