USA, Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has approved a contract to purchase nine compressed natural gas (CNG) buses for use on routes that are currently under development in Los Angeles International Airport’s FlyAway Program. The $4.8 million contract was awarded to North American Bus Industries. In a related matter, the board has also approved a request for proposals to solicit for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a public-access CNG fuel station.
The Board has applied for federal and state grants
totaling $2.8 million to offset part of the cost of the vehicles.
The new buses will operate between 20-24 hours per day, seven days a
week and have a projected service use life of 12 years. In 2007, 1.3
million passengers used the service across the three existing routes.
The FlyAway Program provides service to each terminal, baggage handling
assistance and wheelchair accommodation.
