Kosmo Motor Company Sdn Bhd (Kosmo Motor) has recently unveiled at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2006 (KLIMS) the first compressed natural gas (CNG) bus chassis to be developed by a Malaysian company and manufactured on local shores. Carrying the ‘KOSMO’ brand, this Malaysian first was conceived by Kosmo Motor engineers in collaboration with Yangzhou Yaxing of China.
Having undergone the compulsory, rigorous testing to ensure that the
bus is roadworthy and safe, the KOSMO bus is expected to greet
Malaysians on local highways and routes come July, and possibly other
markets around the world seeking ecologically friendly buses in the
next few years.
Welcoming media representatives to the Kosmo Motor booth Kosmo Motor’s
CEO, Mohd Azham Mohd Noor said, “In view of the growing concerns
regarding fuel prices and global warming, Kosmo Motor has taken it upon
itself to search for possible solutions to our current transport woes
and to create economical yet green alternatives to the commercial
vehicles now plying our roads. The KOSMO CNG bus is the answer and we
feel very upbeat with this new product of ours as we believe we are
moving towards the direction that our Government wants us to – towards
a cleaner and healthier environment, towards depending less on
petroleum and more on alternative fuels, and towards making the country
a manufacturing hub for auto vehicles in the ASEAN region”.
Kosmo Motor Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kosmo Technology
Industrial Berhad (Kosmo Tech) listed on the second board of the
Malaysian Stock Exchange. Kosmo Tech also signed an Investment and
Shareholders Agreement to acquire 27.6% stake in Loremo AG, the
innovative German automaker which displayed its revolutionary concept
car L22 at the Kosmo Motor booth. With the share acquisition, Kosmo
Tech expects to play a significant role in the latter’s business
developments in the months to come, aside from leveraging on Loremo’s
expertise to enhance Kosmo Motor’s R&D capabilities. The sleek L22,
which promises unbelievable features such as consuming a meagre 1.5
litre per 100 km, will be produced in 2009 and scheduled to make its
appearance in Malaysia by 2010.
Also on display at Kosmo’s booth were NGV conversion kits and related services offered by sister company Nagatrend Sdn Bhd.
