German trailer manufacturing company T-AX-O Trailer GmbH, based in Saxony, has converted a 35C14 IVECO Daily running on NG/biomethane into a tractor-trailer unit and is making it commercially available. The first prototype of the tractor version has received homologation approval by NGVA Europe member TÜV Saarland and Dekra Saxony and is ready for serial production as per individual order, acording to NGVA Europe.

“The ambition for the change-over of the Daily CNG was to provide an economically efficient and clean tractor that could pull all trailer versions T-AX-O is offering in their portfolio”, said sales director of T-AX-O, Gerhard Obermaier, adding that, “Nowadays we have to adjust our technology to certain economic and environmental conditions and our new NG/biomethane powered Daily tractor meets exactly the needs that result from these challenges.”

The Daily generates 136 hp from 2730 to 3500 rpm (max. power) and 350 Nm from 1500 to 2730 rpm (max. torque).

T-AX-O declares some of the benefits as -

  • driving the Daily CNG tractor only requires the European driver’s license class BE (passenger car with trailer > 750 kg).
  • fuel consumption is 12 kg of NG/biomethane per 100 km instead of 14 to 20 Litres of Diesel and reduces fuel costs significantly.
  • driving range on NG/biomethane is 800 km.
  • the short wheel-base greatly enhances maneuverability compared to a standard 7.5 ton truck.

The new additional gas cylinders have been put in the back of the driver’s cabin (extra cylinders to increase the range can be placed in the trailer).
