In the lead up to next month’s World Gas Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the International Gas Union (IGU) has released a Strategic Statement outlining the role of natural gas in providing a sustainable energy future. The strategic statement positions natural gas as “the cleanest, most efficient and versatile of the fossil fuels, making it a unique choice to complement renewable energies in the path towards a sustainable future”, stating further that “other technology developments such as those enabling the capture and sequestration of CO2 also support the choice of natural gas.” As an affiliated organization of the IANGV, the IGU is playing a key role in growing the natural gas vehicle industry worldwide. Next month’s World Gas Congress will include 2 sessions dedicated to natural gas vehicles, one being the release of a report from the IGU 5.3 Study Group, “Global Opportunities for Natural Gas as a Transportation Fuel for Today and Tomorrow” and the other a Strategic Panel chaired by IANGV President, Rich Kolodziej. The study group report follows a similar report released by the group at WGC 2006 in Amsterdam.
