IEA Invites Comment

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released an 84-page working paper — “The contribution of natural gas vehicles to sustainable transport” –  which provides an evaluation of the potential costs and benefits of using natural gas as a vehicle fuel for road transportation, as well as the policy related to its market development.

The introduction sets the context:

“There are good reasons to analyse the use of energy in transportation and to explore ways to decarbonise the sector as transportation needs continue to grow in many parts of the world. The transport sector is currently responsible for 23% of energy‐related CO2 emissions, and transport associated CO2 emissions will more than double by 2050 according to the Energy Technology Perspectives 2010 (ETP 2010) Baseline Scenario (IEA, 2010a) … Natural gas is the focus of this paper, both from fossil origin as well as renewable gas in the form of biomethane.”
