First Delivery of LNG by LNG-Fuelled Vehicle for Prometheus Energy

October 30, 2007

Alternative and renewable energy company, Prometheus Energy Company has announced a US “first” using a liquid natural gas (LNG”-powered vehicle to transport 10,000 gallons of LNG to a customer. Prometheus’s new LNG fuelled Kenworth tractor has started shipping LNG from the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill LNG facility to be used as an alternative fuel for public transport vehicles in the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) fleet.

In total, the fleet of 232 LNG transit buses consumes over 15,000
gallons of LNG a day. Prometheus delivered the load of LNG to OCTA on
behalf of Applied LNG Technologies (ALT).

The LNG tractor provides comparable levels of power, torque and fuel
efficiency to similar model diesel trucks, while also reducing green
house gas emissions by roughly 18-20%, or approximately 30 tons of
carbon dioxide each year.
Kirt Montague, CEO of Prometheus, commented: “We are thrilled to be
leading by example and using clean energy vehicles to deliver LNG to
users in the Southern California market. There is a substantial demand
for commercially viable, alternative-fuelled transportation and
delivery vehicles, and we are excited to have the first dedicated
LNG-fuelled tractor to be delivering a load of LNG.”
