Company taking orders now
BRA GmbH, together with partners PGO Automobiles and gasmobil is to present the world premiere of a methane turbo powered roadster, which runs on natural gas or biogas at the International Auto Salon in Geneva from March 6 to 16. The PGO Cévennes Turbo-CNG has a range of 450 kilometres and delivers 150 hp with a weight of 980 kilos. This permits acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The CO2 emission amounts to roughly 118 g/km. If fuelled only with biomethane, the car will be running CO2-neutral.
“With this we have achieved a new milestone for eco-friendly vehicles. For the first time, performance, aesthetics and ecology are united in one automobile,” says Mathias Braune, Head of Development at the Bavarian innovative force BRA. He is convinced “the PGO Cevennes Turbo-CNG will be a true highlight in the more sensibly styled range of CNG vehicles”.
With an average consumption of only around 4.6 kg per 100 kilometres, driving with natural gas can also be enjoyed from a financial point of view. Given a current average price of roughly 83 cents per kilogramme, the Hamburg-Munich route can be driven for less than €30. There are approximately 30 natural gas filling stations along this route and about 770 in all of Germany. Supply is also secure among neighbouring European countries. For example, there are around 90 in Austria, almost 100 in Switzerland and in Italy over 600 filling stations with natural gas or biogas.
In Germany, already over 60,000 vehicles are on the road driven by eco-friendly fuels. Italy comes in first in Europe with over 430,000 vehicles – and there are already 7.5 million in the world.
The Schweinfurt-based firm BRA GmbH is already accepting advance orders for the PGO Cévennes Turbo-CNG for Germany. Depending on the response, partners BRA and PGO will decide on when the eco-friendly roadster will be produced in series. The declared objective of the project partners is to offer the thrifty sports car for a price of around €48,000.
